Since 3 February this year we are working with the Black Jaguar Foundation to offset the carbon footprint of our business and all our travel. Starting in 2021, Sapa Pana Travel will invest at least 1% of our annual turnover in the Black Jaguar project.
Black Jaguar Foundation – Araguaia Biodiversity Corridor
The Black Jaguar Foundation is realising the most ambitious reforestation project in Brazil. The Black Jaguar Foundation has a clear objective: to plant indigenous trees on a gigantic scale, resulting in the realisation of the Araguaia Biodiversity Corridor, the longest nature corridor on earth: 2600 km long and 40 km wide. In this way, they want to restore the balance between nature and humans.
1.7 billion indigenous trees and plants will be planted to restore the Araguaia biodiversity corridor. This corridor is the basin of the Araguaia River. This river has its source in the Brazilian Cerrado. This is an important ecosystem, but much less well known than the Amazon Rainforest. Via the Amazon basin, the Araguaia River flows into the Tocantins River, which flows into the Atlantic Ocean at Belém. The Araguaia Biodiversity Corridor has a length of 2,600 kilometres, an average width of 40 kilometres and runs through two unique ecosystems, which are of eminent importance for the oxygen production on our planet and for combating global warming.
Why the Black Jaguar Foundation?
We have very consciously chosen to cooperate with the Black Jaguar Foundation. This project is a well-prepared and well thought-out reforestation project to restore two ecosystems in a sustainable way, so that the corridor also becomes an ideal habitat for the indigenous fauna again.
How does Sapa Pana Travel contribute to Black Jaguar Foundation?
To start with, Sapa Pana Travel will from now on invest at least 1% of its turnover in the reforestation project of Black Jaguar Foundation. We think that compensating our ecological footprint and that of the trips we organise is in the first place a responsibility of us as Sapa Pana Travel.
Besides that we will keep you informed on a regular basis about the Black Jaguar Foundation and the reforestation of the Araguia Biodiversity Corridor. We tell you about it in our magazines and on our website and social media channels. In this way, we can make clear to everyone what happens with the invested money and we also hope to enthuse you to make a contribution to this project yourself.
