Paramaribo is one of the few real cities in Suriname. Suriname is a melting pot of cultures and that is also noticeable in this vibrant capital. A stay in Paramaribo is like a journey back in time: the traces of the Dutch colonial past are still clearly visible and, everywhere you go, you will feel the history. The historic center of Paramaribo has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2002. Almost all the buildings you will find here are made of wood. That is what makes the historical center of Paramaribo so special. Also the largest wooden building of Latin America, the St. Peter and Paul Basilica, is located in the center. On the Waterkant (waterfront) you will find many nice restaurants and bars. Together with a guide you will take a walk through Paramaribo today, where you will get to know the city better. You will pass several monuments and historic buildings. Your guide will tell you more about the stories behind the buildings and will also show you pictures from the past.
