Mexico!

Family Dicke

There we went, parents and three kids, to Mexico City. It turned out to be an overwhelming start of a wonderful journey.

The first days in Mexico City

We arrived on Saturday. We got used to the city, got some sleep to recover from the long flight and cycled through the city. On Sunday the main highway through the city is reserved for cyclists. Definitely a nice way for a Dutchman to get to know the city. We had an excellent hotel, in a nice and hip part of the city. In the morning we were woken up with hummingbirds. After museums and the Templo Mayor the next day we went to Teotihuacan, once one of the most powerful cities in the world, you could really feel that when you walk around there.

Continue to the east of Mexico

After these first impressions we flew east to Tuxtla Gutierrez, on to Chiapas and San Cristobal. On the way we made a trip by boat through a canyon (Sumidero). Here we saw many animals, such as crocodiles, pelicans, herons and monkeys. Then we drove by car to several Maya strongholds. We visited Palenque, Uxmal and Chichen Itza and finally Tulum. Beach, jungle, rainforest and nice colonial cities. What a variety and what a nice country with helpful people, really relaxed and with a good kitchen, very different than you would expect on the basis of 'our' Mexican restaurants.

As far as we are concerned, Mexico is highly recommended for families who like adventure and variety, but also want to travel safely; do it!

Sapa Pana Travel had organised everything very well with a reliable Mexican partner; everything on time and in an excellent price-quality ratio. Only one downside: the end in Tulum. Where the location was beautiful - with sea turtles of more than one meter - the resort could not meet the (own) high expectations. By renting bikes in the village, we also had a wonderful time here with sun, sea and beach!

Mexico is, as far as we are concerned, highly recommended for families who like adventure and variety, but also want to travel safely; do!
